Ukrainian Folk Art Sessions
From September, Culbaba Theatre CIO is opening its Saturday folk art sessions to everyone.
Join us for an hour of making, learning and discovering Ukrainian traditional crafts. Each month we will explore a different folk art form — learning how to make it while discovering the stories, customs and meanings behind the tradition.
No previous experience is needed. All materials are provided, and everything you make is yours to take home.
September · Vytynanka
Discover the Ukrainian art of decorative paper-cutting. Explore traditional patterns and symbolism and create your own vytynanka.
October · Christmas Star
Discover the tradition of the Ukrainian Christmas star and create your own, inspired by traditional designs.
November · Straw Traditions
Learn to work with straw and discover Ukrainian Christmas traditions, including the geometric hanging pavuk (‘spider’) and the didukh, a ceremonial sheaf traditionally brought into the home at Christmas.
