More Than Just a Choir
At Culbaba Theatre, we're a growing community of creative artists, not limited by genre. We are eager to learn and constantly evolving to represent Ukrainian culture and community in the best possible light. From drawing and dancing to admiring handcrafts, we embrace every opportunity to try something new and enrich our performances.
Driven By Our Values
We are deeply inspired by the resilience of past generations. Knowing that, not for the first time in Ukrainian history, Russia tries to diminish our culture, language, traditions. our ancestors almost a hundred years ago were forced to migrate around the world, trying to save themselves from the cruel Soviet regime. Inspired by the experience of the Ukrainian National Kapella conducted by Oleksandr Koshyts, we believe that our actions today can help future generations of ethnic Ukrainians around the world understand their roots and history.
Proud Project: Ukrainian Wedding Traditions
Our most successful project to date is the Ukrainian Wedding Traditions performance. We meticulously introduced the rituals and symbolism of a traditional wedding to the English-speaking community in an entertaining and educational way. Our music director constantly seeks out old gems of Ukrainian folklore, reviving them in their original sound. The oldest song in our repertoire dates back to 1834, and we recreate it authentically.
Did You Know?
Our team effortlessly switches between at least three languages during rehearsals. We also collect Ukrainian folk micro-traditions from different villages and actively incorporate them into our performances and daily lives, keeping these traditions alive and relevant.
