Culture lives through people — in what they sing, make, remember and pass on.
Our Mission
We preserve and share Ukrainian music, rituals, customs, theatre and folk arts through research, performance and learning.
From centuries-old repertoire to regional traditions and family knowledge, we explore where these practices come from and bring them to contemporary audiences with their stories and context intact.
Our performances, workshops and events give people opportunities to experience Ukrainian culture, take part and pass it on.
Our Vision
We want Ukrainian culture to be recognised for its depth, regional diversity and distinct place within European cultural history.
We bring greater visibility to traditions and cultural voices that have been overlooked, appropriated or suppressed, while creating stronger connections between Ukrainian and British communities.
Our long-term ambition is for Culbaba Theatre to become a trusted centre for Ukrainian cultural heritage in the UK — connecting research, artistic practice, education and community.
Our Values
Authenticity
We work from sources, regional traditions and specialist knowledge, presenting Ukrainian culture with accuracy and context.
Curiosity
We ask questions, follow evidence and seek out material that has been forgotten, overlooked or misunderstood. Discovery drives our creative work.
Continuity
We keep traditions in use — singing, making, performing and teaching them so that knowledge can travel between generations.
Community
We bring together people from different regions, generations and backgrounds, creating connections through shared cultural experience.
Care
We work with respect for the people, memories and histories behind every tradition, and create a welcoming space for participation and belonging.
